Honey is produce by bees from the nectar of the many plants that we have on the property.
Bees travel about 15 miles an hour to gather nectar; a hive must fly more than 50,000 miles to collect enough nectar for a pound of honey.
The color of honey will differ depending on the nectar source; in general lighter honeys are mild in flavor, while darker honeys are more robust in flavor.
Here at the ranch the bees gather nectar from white sage, mustard plant, sugar bush, laurel sumac, black button sage, buckwheat & eucalyptus.
Honey production is also very dependent on the amount of rain we receive. The more rain we receive equals more honey.
Raw honey has antibacterial properties that can be use topically for skin wounds, burns and cuts.
Raw honey is also high in antioxidants, the darker the honey the higher the antioxidants. |
